TELEVISION AND HEALTH – THE NEED TO RELAX

If there is one thing the busy person finds difficult to achieve, it is the ability to relax correctly. Whether we are conscious of it or not, our modern technological age transmits its restless rhythm to everyone. Whatever we do has to be done quickly because we have so many other things waiting. The modern procedure of concentrating on one job enables a person to become skilled and adept in his field, but at the same time it is apt to kill one’s interest in the whole thing to be made or done – the overall picture. The individual does not, or will not, see how his part fits in with the rest, so that the immediate consequence of his attitude is an unsatisfactory condition of joyless existence. Where interest in work and verve are missing, the job itself will not prevent boredom from encroaching into our lives, and we feel that our free time must be arranged so that it is more eventful, rather than used to provide wholesome relaxation.

It is different, however, with the person who enjoys his work. The time will fly, instead of drag by and he will derive pleasure from what he is doing. However, because of his good disposition such a person may be asked to fill in here and there and, in time, he will become overloaded. So beware!
